Event: Sound Biking Series of Workshops with Eduardo Cossio
Listening, re-sounding & radio transmitting from the cycle paths…
Sound Biking presents a series of workshops centered on sonic practices: listening, recording, performing and radio-making. Resident Know Thy Neighbour #4 artist and musician in City of Swan, Eduardo Cossio, takes participants on collective bike rides where we discover with our ears.
Cycle paths criss-cross unique soundscapes. Through attentive listening, the workshops invite cyclists to connect with the sonic environment, query its health, and develop site-specific responses culminating in a RADIO RIDE, a live transmission from the cycle paths.
For ages 16+. All levels of experience and fitness are welcome! Bring an open mind, open ears, and your bike!

Sound Biking Workshop with Eduardo Cossio
Sunday 20 Sep 4pm – 6.30pm
Immerse yourself in the unique sounds of Dayton as we ride, listen and discover with our ears. Sound Biking is a variation on the Sound Walk, which is described as ‘an activity whose main purpose is to listen to the environment, exposing your ears to every sound around us no matter where we are.’ This will be a sonic tour exploring cycle paths as unique sites for listening to the urban environment. You are welcome to bring a recording device (phones can work), or just you and your ears!
Field Recording Workshop with Eduardo Cossio & Ryan Borrett
Sunday 4 Oct 4pm – 6.30pm
Join us as we capture the sounds of Dayton - its nature and urban environments – on a bike! Cycle paths criss-cross unique soundscapes and through attentive listening we can understand more about our environment; its health, any pressing issues, or simply deepen our relationship to it. We will be cycling between locations while exploring recording techniques; from hydrophones for underwater recordings to audio editing workflows for creative compositions.
Improvising with the Environment Workshop with Eduardo Cossio & Sage Pbbbt
Sunday 18 Oct 4pm – 6.30pm
A workshop exploring sound-making in response to the environment. The workshop will be facilitated by experimental improvisers Eduardo Cossio and Sage Pbbbt. With an emphasis on vocals, participants will be guided through site-specific performance approaches where the environment is regarded as a co-creative musical partner. Open to all levels of experience. Instruments also welcome. Location: Dayton Family Hub
Radio Ride with Eduardo Cossio and Radio DADAA
Sunday 1 Nov 4pm – 6.30pm
Join us for Boorloo’s first ever Radio Ride. Live recordings, performances, and stories will be streamed live as we traverse the unique environments in Dayton. This is an event is co-presented with Radio DADAA.
Your Hosts:
Eduardo Cossio is a Peruvian-Australian musician and visual artist. He has toured nationally and internationally, hosted solo exhibitions, and worked in community radio for the last ten years. He runs the experimental music series Outcome Unknown.
This event forms part of Eduardo Cossio’s project, which is part of his SPACED: Know Thy Neighbour #4 residency in partnership with City of Swan.
What to expect:
For ages 16+.
The pace will be slow and leisurely, so all levels of cycling fitness are welcome.
BYOB. Bring Your Own Bike. Bike hire will be provided on request.
Approximate distance of travel: 1 hour including 2 stops (20 min each) using cycle paths and shared paths in good condition.
In the event of unforeseen weather conditions halting the ride, a recording workshop at Dayton Open Space & Family Hub will take place.
Each workshop will follow part of the route marked on the map.
