Eduardo Cossio with City of Swan

Artist:  Eduardo Cossio
Location: Dayton and Brabham
Project Partner: City of Swan

Work In Progress: Eduardo will focus on cycling and cycling networks that traverse recent urban developments, nature reserves, embed rich histories and communities. The project consists of collective bike rides taking place over day and night, and aims to imagine alternative and more sustainable practices, ones that deepen relationships between the community and the environment.

About the artist:

Eduardo Cossio is a Peruvian-Australian musician and visual artist. Based in Boorloo since 2005, he has led his own bands and written music film, dance, and inter disciplinary productions. His work spans songwriting, notated chamber pieces, experimental composition, and sound improvisation.

Originally a self-taught guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, Eduardo graduated with an Honours Degree in Composition & Music Technology from WAAPA in 2017. He has since developed a distinctive electro-acoustic practice using zithers, vocals, harmonica, and electronics; an approach best exemplified in the solo album Citadels. Eduardo has toured widely across Australia, Europe, Taiwan, Singapore and Canada.

He is a prolific organiser, broadcaster, and writer in the Perth community. He runs Outcome Unknown an experimental music series; has been involved in community radio as producer-presenter with RTRFM and Radio DADAA; and his writing has appeared on local and national art magazines including UnMagazine and Resonate Magazine. He has received numerous awards and nominations from WAM (West Australian Music), the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, and APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association).

As a visual artist, Eduardo works across photography, video, and performance. His work has been the subject of three solo exhibitions and has received commissions from the Perth Centre for Photography and Geraldton regional Art Galleries.

About the project partner:

City of Swan is the largest local government by land size in the metropolitan area, covering almost 20 per cent of Perth. Rich in natural assets like the iconic Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River) and the internationally renowned Swan Valley, the City blends stunning landscapes with a strong sense of place. The land provided a natural abundance of food and water resources to the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation for over 40,000 years, who developed a rich history of customs in the area, many of which continue to the present day. The community also reflects a rich blend of European heritage and multicultural diversity, with one in three residents born overseas and nearly a quarter speaking a language other than English at home.

The City’s economy benefits from their location as an outer metropolitan gateway, with all kinds of businesses choosing to call their City home. The largest industries of employment are healthcare, social assistance and construction. This economic importance is demonstrated by the designation of Midland as a “strategic metropolitan centre” in State planning documents. The City’s unique history, diverse community and strong economy position us for a future full of opportunity.
