OPEN SPACE Spotlight: emerging producer Rochelle O’Brien

Rochelle is part of SPACED’s emerging producer program, OPEN SPACE, and is the Arts Development Officer for Shire of Carnarvon. She is assisting Circular Economies artist Linda Tegg and has offered us a reflection of her experience so far.

Linda’s work both fascinates and intrigues me and I am eternally grateful for the opportunities this project has brought my community and for me as an arts worker, to have exposure to projects of this caliber - I don’t really have the words for how much it means to me personally and also the value and benefits this brings my community!

A part of the emerging producer program had us connecting online weekly over 5 weeks with the team at SPACED and PICA, for workshops with The University of WA’s School of Design team
@uwa_design, on various topics related to arts work, hosted by experts in their fields.

When I tell you, being in the same room (albeit virtual) with passionate people who have been working on incredible and deeply meaningful projects all over the world left such an indelible mark on my soul and has stoked the fire in my little arts worker heart.

This is the awe, the wonder, the magical impact of the arts world. And I get to bring it to the people for my work?

I know I’m in the right place!

OPEN SPACE is a professional development program run in partnership with UWA School of Design. The professional development sessions for our current cohort of emerging producers assisting SPACED 5: Circular Economies artists include community engagement, documentation, creative production and more. It targeted the skills needed by producers working in community and socially engaged arts.
