This weekend, Rural Utopias artist Jacky Cheng joins the John Curtin Gallery at Curtin University in an artist talk alongside Joshua Cocking, in which she will discuss her work ‘…that awaits at the end of life’, which recently awarded her the John Stringer Prize 2022. To follow, Jacky will facilitate a paper folding techniques and workshop, for a more tactile appreciation of her practice.

The UWA Conservatorium of Music is a vibrant centre for research in all areas of music, and has a thriving community of scholars engaged in robust disciplinary debates nationally and internationally.

Spaced will be attending the Asialink Regional // Regional programme of Festival Alliances across Australia and the Indo-Pacific in Darwin 10 and 11 August.

This symposium brings together artists, researchers, and organisers to yarn, present, and perform about their diverse arts practices and imagine creative approaches for the future of work in the visual arts sector. Participants will present creative ideas that challenge existing processes and structures to create more equitable, inclusive, and collaborative approaches that recognise and embrace the diverse cultural and social values in artistic and creative practices today.

This year NAIDOC week will be held 3 -10 July 2021.

Themed: Get Up! Stand Up!, Show Up! we are all encouraged to to champion institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative change while celebrating those who have already driven and led change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities over generations.

With Fremantle Art Centre recently sharing their Groundwork artists, we are excited to see two names among the lineup from our own programming. Yabini Kickett and Bennett Miller have been part of our Know Thy Neighbour #3 and Rural Utopias residencies, respectively, and will continue to deliver work on these projects across the year.

We are happy to share the news that Spaced artist Alana Hunt has been granted an inaugural arts fellowship to join the 2022 Asialink Leaders program.

As part of UWA’s Empowering Communities Through Design masters unit coordinated by Lara Camilla Pinho, speakers from Know Thy Neighbour #3 will be discussing their work and reflecting on community engagement. ⠀⠀

Panellists will include Elham Eshraghian-Haakansson and Amy Perejuan-Capone, with Mayma Awaida (Curator, Know Thy Neighbour #3) and Soula Veyradier (Director Programs, Spaced) as moderators.
