In Conversation: Curator Paula Silva & Artist Ruben Santiago

Spaced invites you to an evening in conversation with curator Paula Silva (Portugal/Australia) and current spaced 2 artist Ruben Santiago (Spain).

Sharing a practical focus on site-specificity, on-going methodologies and processes of audience participation, Silva and Santiago will discuss their recent projects and past collaboration together for Iteration: Again, 13 Public Art Projects across Tasmania.

Artist talk: Maddie Leach (New Zealand)

Join us at the spacedHUB this March for an artist talk hosted by Maddie Leach as she presents her previously acclaimed works and current reflections on her spaced 2 project in Mandurah.

Maddie Leach’s artistic practice is largely project-based, place responsive and conceptually driven. Over the last decade her practice has shifted from a series of large-scale, gallery-based installations towards temporary interventions in public sites.

Artist talk: Pia Lanzinger (Germany)

Berlin-based artist Pia Lanzinger has recently begun a commissioned project for spaced 2 in the mid-west city of Geraldton. Throughout 2013 and 2014 Lanzinger will explore concepts of the urban and rural landscape, looking at those cracks and contrasts often seen between romantic imaginings and modern interventions of cultivated living spaces. Lanzinger’s practice focuses on collaborative projects in public spaces that attempt to notice the breaks and inconsistencies in the conditions of daily existence, and enable communicative experimentation.

Artist talk: Archana Hande (India)

Mumbai-based artist Archana Hande will host an artist talk at the spacedHUB, where after recently completing the first phase of her residency she will discuss her spaced 2: future recall project in the town of Laverton.  Hande’s practice is based on a process of community engagement and oral story-telling. Through her works she looks to trace contested terrains within communities over issues such as tradition, religion, trade and migration.

Artist talk: tea mäkipää (Finland)

Wednesday 23 October 2013, 6pm

Join Finnish-based artist Tea Mäkipää in a discussion of her  practice and those concepts and ideas which will inform her spaced 2: future recall project in Esperance.

During her Esperance residency Tea Mäkipää will explore the local communities’ attitudes and experiences with flora and fauna of the region. Interested in biodiversity and sustainability, Mäkipää will collect stories and anecdotes of encounters between man and the wild, and through this process will look to mediate and ease the relationships between different species of animals and humans.

Artist talk: Daniel Peltz (U.S)

As a part of the spaced 2: future recall series of Perth based activities Daniel Peltz will host an artist talk, discussing his project when we dig, things come up.

Contemporary artist Daniel Peltz, based in the U.S. and Sweden, will take up residence in the Western Australian mining community of Tom Price during June and July, 2013, developing a project for spaced 2: future recall. During his time in the iron ore mining town Peltz will explore the history of Tom Price, the man, the mountain and the mine.

Artist talk: Jay Koh (Singapore/Germany)

Join us for an artist talk by internationally renowned contemporary artist, Jay Koh  as he reflects upon his time in the community of Cervantes. Koh will offer a unique insight into his public participatory art practice, and how he views the current evolving nature of his spaced 2: future recall project within the small coastal community of Cervantes.
